Passive Sentences

A.                Definition of Passive Sentence
Passive sentence or passive voice is a grammatical construction where the subject of the sentence is not to take action, but rather accept the action or follow-up (receiver of action) by another agent (doer of action) either mentioned or not. In contrast, the active construction, subject directly related to the verb to act as agents of action. Active sentence can be transformed into passive, but only transitive verb (followed by direct object) that can be enforced so. In other words, the subject of the sentence is being targeted activity expressed by the verb.

B.                 Passive Sentence Formula
Passive voice or passive sentences in english is formed by the following basic formula :
1. Affirmative (+)
   * Active Sentence Formula       : S + V + O
      Example                                  : Students write a letter
   * Passive Sentence Formula      : S + To Be +V3 + by + O
      Example                                  : A letter is written by students
2. Negative (-)
   * Active Sentence Formula        : S + Auxiliary + Not + V + O
      Example                                  : Students do not write a letter
   * Passive Sentence Formula      : S + To Be + Not + V3 + by + O
      Example                                  : A letter is not written by students
3. Interrogative (?)
   * Active Sentence Formula        : Auxiliary + S +V + O
      Example                                   : Do students write a letter ?
   * Passive Sentence Formula       : To Be + S + V3 + by + O
      Example                                   : Is a letter written by students ?
4. Question (What and How ?)
   * Active Sentence Formula        : QW + Auxiliary + S + V + O
      Example                                  : Why do students write a letter ?
   * Passive Sentence Formula       : QW + To Be + S + V3 + by + O
      Example                                  : Why is a letter written by students ?

Here is the formula of passive voice in 16 tenses complete sentences origin accompanied by his active voice :
1.  Present Simple Tense
    * Active Sentence Formula         : S + V1 + O
       Example                                   : Many people speak English
    * Passive Sentence Formula       : S + To be (am, are, is) + V3 + by + O
       Example                                   : English is spoken by many people
2.  Present Continuous Tense
    * Active Sentence Formula         : S + to be (am, are, is) + V1 ing + O
       Example                                   : Many people are speaking English
    * Passive Sentence Formula       : S + to be (am, are, is) + being + V3 + by + O
       Example                                   : English is being spoken by many people
3.  Present Perfect Tense
    * Active Sentence Formula        : S + to be (am, are, is) + being + V3 + by + O
       Example                                   : Many people have spoken English
    * Passive Sentence Formula       : S + have/has + been + V3 + by + O
       Example                                   : English has been spoken by many people
4.  Present Perfect Continuous Tense
    * Active Sentence Formula         : S + have/has + been + V1-ing + O
       Example                                   : Many people have been speaking English
    * Passive Sentence Formula       : S + have/has + been + being + V3 + by + O
       Example                                   : English has been being spoken by many people
5.  Past Simple Tense
    * Active Sentence Formula         : S + V2 + O
       Example                                   : Many people spoke English
    * Passive Sentence Formula       : S + to be (was, were) + V3 + by + O
       Example                                   : English was spoken by many people
6.  Past Continuous Tense
    * Active Sentence Formula         : S + to be (was, were) + V1-ing + O
       Example                                   : Many people were speaking English
    * Passive Sentence Formula       : S + to be (was, were) + being + V3 + by + O
       Example                                   : English was being spoken by many people
7.  Past Perfect Tense
    * Active Sentence Formula         : S + had not + V3 + O
       Example                                   : Many people had spoken English
    * Passive Sentence Formula        : S + had + been + V3 + by + O
       Example                                    : English had been spoken by many people
8.  Past Perfect Continuous Tense
    * Active Sentence Formula          : S + had + been + V1-ing + O
       Example                                     : Many people had been speaking English
    * Passive Sentence Formula         : S + had + been + being + V3 + by + O
       Example                                     : English had been being spoken by many people
9.  Future Simple Tense
     * Active Sentence Formula          : S + will not + V1 + O
        Example                                    : Many people will speak English
     * Passive Sentence Formula         : S + will be + V3 + by + O
        Example                                     : English will be spoken by many people
10. Future Continuous Tense
     * Active Sentence Formula           : S + will + be + V1-ing + O
        Example                                     : Many people will be speaking English
     * Passive Sentence Formula         : S + will + be + being + V3 + by + O
        Example                                     : English will be being spoken by many people
11. Future Perfect Tense
     * Active Sentence Formula          : S + will + have + V3 + O
        Example                                     : Many people will have spoken English
     * Passive Sentence Formula         : S + will + have + been + V3 + by + O
        Example                                     : English will have been spoken by many people
12. Future Perfect Continuous Tense
     * Active Sentence Formula          : S + will + have + been + V1-ing + O
        Example                                     : Many people will have been speaking English
     * Passive Sentence Formula         : S + will + have + been + V1-ing + O
        Example                                     : English will have been being spoken by Many people
13. Past Future Simple Tense
     * Active Sentence Formula           : S + would +  V1 + O
        Example                                     : Many people would speak English
     * Passive Sentence Formula         : S + would + be + V3 + by + O
        Example                                     : English would be spoken by many people
14. Past Future Continuous Tense
     * Active Sentence Formula           : S + would + be + V1-ing + O
        Example                                     : Many people would be speaking English
     * Passive Sentence Formula         : S + would + be + being + V3 + by + O
        Example                                     : English would be being spoken by many people
15. Past Future Perfect Tense
     * Active Sentence Formula          : S + would + have + V3 + O
        Example                                     : Many people would have spoken English
     * Passive Sentence Formula         : S + would + have + been + V3 + by + O
        Example                                     : English would have been spoken by many people
16. Past Future Perfect Continuous Tense
     * Active Sentence Formula           : S + would + have + been + V1-ing + O
        Example                                      : Many people would have been speaking English

C.                Examples Of Active Sentences Into Passive Sentences
        1. Active Sentence          : My mother always cleans the floor every morning.
            Passive Sentence         : The floor is always cleaned by my mother every morning.
        2. Active Sentence          : Fadhila watched the movie in the theatre last night.
            Passive Sentence         : The movie was watched by Fadhila in the theatre last night.
        3. Active Sentence          : She was buying some books last night.
            Passive Sentence         : Some books were being bought by her last night.
        4. Active Sentence          : The manager has interviewed some candidates
            Passive Sentence         : Some candidates have been interviewed by the manager.
        5. Active Sentence          : They must obey the rules in this camp.
            Passive Sentence         : The rules must be obeyed by them in this camp.
        6. Active Sentence          : Carroll had made a good decision to leave Liverpool.
            Passive Sentence         : A good decision had been made by Carroll to leave Liverpool.
        7. Active Sentence          : Before I got an injury, I could climb Mount Rinjani.
            Passive Sentence         : Before I got an injury, Mount Rinjani could be climbed by me.
        8. Active Sentence          : She was buying some books last night.
            Passive Sentence         : Some books were being bought by her last night.
        9. Active Sentence          : She should bring her phone to call her mom.
            Passive Sentence         : Her phone should be brought by her to call her mom.
       10. Active Sentence          : I asked my secretary to answer the call
             Passive Sentence         : I asked the call to be answered by my secretary

D.                Examples Of Passive Sentences Into Active Sentences
        1. Passive Sentence         : Fried rice is eaten by Ani every morning.
            Active Sentence          : Ani eats fried rice every morning.
        2. Passive Sentence         : Korean movie is always watched by rahma.
            Active Sentence          : Rahma always watches Korean movie.
        3. Passive Sentence         : A car is sold by My father.
            Active Sentence          : My father sell a car.
        4. Passive Sentence         : English is studied by me every night.
            Active Sentence          : I study English every night.
          5. Passive Sentence         : A snake is killed by Dika every night.
           Active Sentence          : Dika kills a snake every night.
       6. Passive Sentence         : I was taken by My brother to college.
           Active Sentence          : My brother took me to college.
       7. Passive Sentence         : Coffee was made by me this morning.
           Active Sentence          : I made coffee this morning.
       8. Passive Sentence         : Chicken was cooked by mother this afternoon.
           Active Sentence          : My mother cooked chicken this afternoon.
       9. Passive Sentence         : Jessica is helped by Smith.
           Active Sentence          : Smith helps Jessica.
     10. Passive Sentence         : A rainbow cake is being made by them now.
           Active Sentence          : They are making a rainbow cake now.
